Unless you are unable to do the usual activities
of daily living you do not need to be in a
hospital setting for trauma treatment. If you
can keep a regular schedule, get yourself to
appointments on time, take care of your hygiene,
meals, and sleeping without prompting by others
then you can participate in the ITT program.
We accept people who have suicidal thoughts
but not those who are actively suicidal or
unstable.
We screen for ego regression as part of our
regular intake procedure. If you have significant
ego regression we can give you suggestions for
dealing with it. You should postpone trauma work
until the ego regression is reversed.

If you have been given several different
diagnoses and none of them seems to be appropriate. |
 |
If you have been disappointed with inpatient
programs that focus on group therapy instead
of individual sessions; |
 |
If you hear voices that are trauma-related; |
 |
If you feel that you are on a plateau in
your current therapy or your therapist does
not have the specific skills to treat trauma; |
 |
If medication has not relieved your symptoms
and you have a trauma history; and/or |
 |
If you feel that your previous therapy
has been focused on the wrong issues. |

When we receive your call to inquire about treatment
at ITT we will arrange for a telephone appointment
with you and one of our clinicians to gather
some information to determine if you would
benefit from our treatment program. We will
ask about your trauma history, past therapy,
current psychological state, and your goals
for the program. Afterward you will need to
complete a set of assessment forms that can
be requested by calling (304) 291-2912.

A single trauma or simple PTSD can be treated
in one week. Dissociative disorders require
the two-week program in order to learn ways
to manage the voices and to process the early
and most significant traumas. We can advise
you about the length of time required based
on your scores on our screening assessments
and your trauma history. While we can process
a significant number of traumas we cannot always
do every one that is needed in a two-week period.
Some people with a lengthy and complicated
trauma history need an additional two-week
program.
ITT is not a forensic facility. If someone wants
an evaluation for competency or for evidence
of sexual abuse he/she should seek another
program.

We do not take people who are actively using
alcohol or drugs as a way to manage their symptoms.
Depending on a person’s substance use history
we will recommend a period of abstinence ranging
from 30 to 120 days. Our experience has been
that people who have recently become sober are
under too much stress to begin trauma work.
We do not accept Medicare
or Medicaid patients, Workers Compensation
cases, or any cases where there is a current
or anticipated
lawsuit.
