training

If you completed your graduate education prior to 2000, you probably did not
learn much about the effects of trauma, let alone ways to treat it. You can
greatly enhance your clinical skills to deal with intrusive, avoidant, and
arousal symptoms. Our training will enable you to help your patients or clients
to:
Relieve
nightmares, flashbacks, emotional
numbing, and
dissociation
Safely
process traumatic memories
Avoid
re-living traumas
Deal
with self-mutilation
Stop
command hallucinations
Control
unwanted impulses

Visiting Therapists
The
best way to learn our method is to accompany
a person through a one- or two-week program.
We encourage therapists who have referred someone
to ITT to come for as long as they can to observe
and learn. We know it is difficult to carve
out a week or two from a busy clinical schedule
but we will work with you on a suitable plan.
Internships & Practicums
We accept master or doctoral
level students in the fields of social work,
art therapy,
counseling, marriage and family therapy,
and psychology, as well as medical residents
and
interns.

ITT sponsors this course for individuals interested in becoming qualified to deploy in the event of a disaster and those who need to fulfill this requirement for their certification in Traumatology.
This training is for therapists, chaplins, nurses, social workers, school counselors, teachers, ministers, first responders, Emergency Action Plan (EAP) staff, and other professional care givers who work with those dealing with the impact of traumatic events. This training, along with two free online Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) courses, certifies you to deploy as a field traumatologist with the Academy of Traumatology when disaster strikes.
This course will prepare participants to lessen the impact of a disaster or critical incident on individuals, families, groups or communities. It will help to affirm and expand professional competencies in the provision of crisis intervention services; facilitate health and well-being of professional caregivers through education, networking, support, and self-care measures; and prepare participants for future deployment opportunities in post-disaster locations.

One Week Practicum Experience at ITT Clinic (T1005)
A final requirement of those pursuing a certification in Traumatology is to fulfill a five-day (Monday through Friday) clinical practicum experience at our clinic. This provides clinicians who have completed the Traumatology courses an opportunity to observe these clinical procedures [being put to use] in our intensive outpatient treatment setting. Trainees are required to attend the 7- hour sessions from 8:30 am- 4:30 pm each day as a member of the clinical treatment team. They are also invited to join our bag lunch clinical meetings from Noon-1:00 pm where they will be given the opportunity to reflect on this experience and ask questions.
Practicum experiences are scheduled on an individual basis. We only accept one trainee per client and this must be coordinated with our clinical schedule. To schedule this training, please call our office. There is no time limit as to how long after the Accelerated Training a trainee has to complete the Practicum. ITT’s Training Directors may use their discretion to determine if trainees are ready for the Practicum.
